A2 Class 2011 - Post 2

Introducing The Idea of Creativity:
Creativity is a very important aspect to media as it is what develops new ideas and is what constructs new productions. Creativity is a way to portray everyday circumstances in a new and inspirational light coming up with an initial idea and developing it further to form the finished product.
Creativity within the media industry differs a great deal when comparing to creativity within the dance and performing arts industry. For instance, many dance groups perform very well choreographed dance performances that the audience does not fully understand, and this is accepted due to the appretiation they have for the context of dance talent. On the other hand, a 'well produced film' that the audience does not fully understand immediately becomes a 'bad film' and is acknowledged less by film critics and it's viewers.
As a class, we looked at what it takes to be creative.

Creativity is;
Creativity is a mental process involving the discovery of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the existing ideas or concepts, fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight.

For this task we played a game of consequinces in groups of four. We each had to give eachother a random noun and adjective in order to make a sentence. The idea was to write a word on a piece of paper, then fold it over and give it to the next person. The next person would not have seen what was first written and would then add another word. This would then go round the entire group until we ended up with a fully folded piece of paper. After the whole group had added there words, I then opened the piece of paper and the made the words into a sentence.

My sentance was: The pretty shoe lace jumped the clean pig.

After we had seen what the sentence was, we then had to use our creative aspects and design a picture that would describe the sentance without the sentance being there, so the picture had to be as clear as possible. I had difficulty creating the image to start with, as I could find the correct program to use, and therefore I could not merge images together. I then went and purchased a copy of Adobe Photo shop which made the task at hand very easy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this task as I found it very myself learning how to use the Photoshop which i knew would come in handy throughout my media studies as well as throghout my life as creating images and monipulating them is made very easy with the use of this technology.

Research Definitions of The Term "skills"

The free dictionary definition: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Skills

My definition of a skill is;

A skill is something that can be developed, improved and worked on. It may be something that other people do not posses, therefore it is seen as a skill. In order to succeed in a skill training is required.

To relate this to my media course, the skill is learning how to execute shot types, using different cameras. In order to improve on this skill one would practice using different types of camera.
